TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING
What do transportation engineers do?
Transportation engineers design, plan, construct and maintain different types of transportation systems such as roads, airports, port terminals, railroads, among other systems. The implementation of technology has facilitated their analysis when getting to design and plan a transportation system, but they still face many challenges such as traffic congestion, road safety problems and motorized vehicle emissions.
What is transportation engineering?
Transportation Engineering consists of making sure that each person can move in an efficient, comfortable, efficient and safe manner. Different types of challenges are faced in this field mainly because even though the system may be identical it doesn’t work in the same way in different places. It looks to improve transportation systems which help to improve the environment and also the economical aspect of the country being worked on.
Women in transportation engineering?
The first woman to work in a tunnel was Janet Bonnema in 1972. She got her master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado-Denver. To work in this tunnel, she had to go through extensive training, and it wasn’t until 1972 that changes in equal employment began to happen that she had the chance to work hands-on on a tunnel. She was inducted in Colorados Women’s Hall of Fame in 2012 due to her contributions to workplace equality
