What is Project Management?
Construction Engineering and Management focuses on the culmination of every project. Differently to geotechnical engineers which work mostly in the initial phase of every project, project management engineers work in every phase of the project. They gain knowledge in every field of civil engineering since they focus on the results of the final outcome so they need to integrate every civil engineering discipline so they can have a good understanding and planning of the design and construction phases. While gaining knowledge in every discipline of civil engineering, this type of civil engineers also gain knowledge in different disciplines of engineering, such as architecture and electrical or mechanical engineering.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
What do project management engineers do?
Project engineers can do a wide variety of work depending on the industry and project working on. Usually in civil engineering projects their responsibilities may include: inspection of work sites, verify site safeties and requirements, maintain project objectives ensuring everything runs in order and as established previously, and supervising.
Women in Project Management
When speaking of project engineers we don’t only have civil engineers working in this field but also arquitects. Meet Julia Morgan was a pioneering architect and the first woman to obtain a license as an architect in the state of California. One of her most notable projects was the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Morgan not only designed this iconic structure but also managed its construction, overseeing every detail from the initial designs to its execution. The project was monumental, requiring the coordination of large and complex teams, a challenge Morgan handled with remarkable skill. Julia Morgan is remembered for her talent in leading diverse teams and successfully executing complex projects with a unique and functional style. Her legacy includes not only her architectural innovations but also her role as one of the first women to achieve recognition and influence in construction project management, paving the way for future generations.
